FANUC CORPORATION is launching the "5-Axis Integrated Technology Initiative," a new initiative to support improved productivity, higher accuracy, and stable machining quality in the machining of complex-shaped parts, including aerospace components.
Through collaboration with machine tool builders and CAD/CAM and post-processor vendors, this initiative aims to promote the adoption of machine tools and post-processors that support the latest 5-axis machining functions and to realize an environment in which 5-axis machining technologies can be used with confidence and effectiveness.

Background

In fields such as aerospace, energy, and medical devices, there is a growing need to machine complex-shaped parts with high accuracy and high efficiency, and the use of 5-axis machining is becoming important to meet this need.
Recent CNC systems are equipped with various functions that contribute to improved quality and productivity in 5-axis machining. To fully utilize these capabilities, it is important to improve consistency among systems across the entire machining process, including not only the machine tool, but also the CAD/CAM system used for design and the post-processor that generates the machining program.

Toward “Connected 5-Axis Machining”

Through this initiative, FANUC will work with machine tool builders and CAD/CAM and post-processor vendors to promote the adoption of machine tools and post-processors that can effectively utilize the latest 5-axis machining functions.
By using machine tools and post-processors that meet the initiative requirements, users can improve consistency across the entire machining process and create an environment that maximizes the value of 5-axis machining. Through this, the initiative supports the realization of the following benefits at manufacturing sites:

  • Reduced machining time
  • Improved machining accuracy
  • Stable machining quality
  • Easier machining startup
  • Reduced operational effort

Conformity with the Initiative

5-Axis Integrated Technology Initiative Logo

Machine tools and post-processors that meet the initiative requirements may display a logo indicating their support for the latest 5-axis machining functions.
This logo can be used as a reference when users select applicable products.

The latest information on machine tools and post-processors that meet the initiative requirements will be published sequentially on our website.

FANUC will continue to contribute to improved productivity at manufacturing sites by promoting the use of 5-axis machining technologies through collaboration with related companies.
